Aarat P. Kalra
Principal Investigator · Assistant Professor, Centre for Biomedical Engineering, IIT Delhi
Biography
Dr. Aarat P. Kalra is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he leads the Quantum Bioengineering Lab. His work sits at the interface of physical chemistry and biology, investigating how light and electricity interface with living systems — from the molecular basis of electroceuticals to protein-based nanoelectronic circuits.
He completed a B.Sc. (Hons., with distinction) in chemistry at Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra; an M.Sc. in biology at McGill University; and a Ph.D. in physics with Prof. Jack Tuszyński at the University of Alberta. He then carried out postdoctoral research in the Department of Chemistry at Princeton University with Prof. Gregory Scholes, publishing transformative work on microtubule electronics.
Research Interests
Dr. Kalra’s group develops quantum-biological approaches to disease diagnosis and therapy, studies the electrical and photophysical properties of proteins and microtubules, and works towards a dielectric map of the biological cell. His interests span quantum biotechnology, bioelectronics and electroceuticals, biosensing, and the biophysics of the cytoskeleton.
